These homemade brownies are great for everyone, vegan or not. They have the perfect texture, crispy edges and fudgy middle, and as befits chocolate brownies they have a strong chocolaty flavor (my favorite!).
Although I'm not vegan, I prefer to make vegan brownies, or other vegan desserts. This way I don't need to calculate which of my guests will be able to grab a piece and who will be left with a sad look on their face. Almost anyone can enjoy these vegan brownies.
Easy brownies recipe
Ingredients
7 oz. (200 g) dark chocolate
2.8 oz. (80 g) coconut oil
5.3 oz. (150 g) sugar
½ ts vanilla extract
¾ cup unsweetened apple sauce
5 oz. (140 g) flour
1 oz. (30 g) high-fat cocoa powder
Pinch of salt
½ ts sea salt
Equipment
20x20 baking dish
baking paper
Instructions
Preheat an oven to 350F (180C) and line the baking dish with baking paper.
Melt the dark chocolate with the coconut oil (microwave or use a double boiler).
Let it cool down at room temperature for about 5 minutes.
Mix-in sugar, vanilla extract and unsweetened apple sauce.
Sift the flour and cocoa powder over a large bowl. Mix-in a pinch of salt.
Add the dry mixture to the brownies batter and mix with a spatula just until combined. Do not overmix the batter.
Spread the brownies batter in the baking dish and sprinkle the sea salt on top.
Bake the brownies for 15-20 minutes, until the edges of the batter are ready, but the middle is a little under-baked. At this stage remove the brownies from the oven directly to the freezer, to stop the baking process. Leave in the freezer for 2 hours.
Cut the brownies to 16 equal pieces. Keep the brownies in a sealed box in the refrigerator (good for 2 weeks).
